Stress & Appreciation

Recently, I had an experience that made me reflect on the importance of taking a step back and appreciating the moment.

Living in the mountains in the Eastern region of Ghana has truly been a dream come true. Somehow, I’ve focused more on the lack of convenience rather than living out an answered prayer.

During a facetime call with a friend from Howard, I was reminded of the countless African-Americans who would pay a premium price to be as detached from the world as I am--both literally and figuratively. This energy served as a wake-up call for me to appreciate the space I’m in and learn from every experience. Immediately after this conversation, I decided to plan out my running list of places to visit and things to try — from hiking to umbrella rock to spending a night at Labadi Beach, or as I’d like to call it, “the other side of the Atlantic.”

No WiFi = No Problem (so I thought)

Not everything has been smooth sailing. I recently spent so much time trying to log on to WiFi that I ended up using all my data within two days. Yes, similar to the data we needed back in 2005. Learning to live without the convenience of western society has been slightly more challenging than I originally anticipated.

Random Thought

On a side note, I’m getting sued by my bank. But that’s not going to stop me from living life here in Ghana. It’s all part of the journey, and I’m grateful for every experience. Quick lesson learned, have your financial affairs in order prior to moving to another country. That feels obvious, I just forgot to read that memo before moving to Ghana.

If you’re thinking about starting your own adventure, I encourage you to take the leap. It certainly won’t be easy, but it will always be worth it.

Ghana has so much to offer, and if you approach it with an open mind and heart, you will find peace and opportunity in this beautiful country.
